Hackney Town Hall is my most-worked venue, and one of my absolute favourites. The Grade II-listed building on Mare Street has everything: a good variety of ceremony rooms, a gorgeous exterior for portraits, and a genuinely Hackney atmosphere that I love
I have photographed more weddings here than anywhere else. I know every room, where the light comes from at different times of day, and I know the building well enough to guide you where the best places are for indoor couple portraiture after your ceremony
My approach on the day
I arrive early, prepare my equipment, check the light, and then I'm ready for everyone to arrive.
My approach is a mix of candid visual storytelling whereby I capture genuine moments as they unfold, but I also give small amounts of gentle direction for natural looking stylish portraiture. I believe it's important to provide both styles of images for weddings, so you get the unseen moments of the day and also more polished portraiture that is suitable for framing on the wall. I shoot mainly with daylight although fill-in flash will sometimes be used where the light requires it.
After the ceremony
The building's interior first-floor art deco marble hall, the daylight glass-roofed atrium, and the staircase from the main hallway are all great for indoor couple shots, especially in low season, when the weather can be more unpredictable.
The exterior grand steps lend themselves well for confetti throwing, family group shots and more couple portraits.
If you have time before heading off for your meal, the surrounding area has plenty of options for something more relaxed. I know the spots that work best at different times of day and in various seasons.The quieter side streets, the graffiti railway arches and London Fields are only a stones throw the town hall and are some of my favourite places in Hackney for wedding portraits.
What is included
Every enquiry starts with a consultation call. We go through the details and timeline you have so far, I may make some suggestions and I answer whatever questions you have.
Once you have booked, we can have a second call nearer to the time of your wedding, to finalise your schedule. You will get full coverage for the hours we agree, and your images will be presented in a private online digital gallery in high-resolution with full download/printing rights, delivered in six to eight weeks depending on the time of year.

Hackney Town Hall
Can all couples use the first-floor art deco marble hall for portraits after their ceremony?
Couples that have booked the large glass-roofed atrium or the upstairs committee room have permission to use the art deco hallway for portraits after their ceremony. Couples who have booked the petite Lancaster suit will need to check for permission, it's not always possible as there maybe another wedding which has priority.
What happens if it's raining when we come out after the ceremony?
I have two transparent umbrellas that I bring along, if it looks like we may need them. They are a fun prop to use! The kind and friendly registrars at the town hall know me well, and they will also use their discretion subject to venue availability for using the interior of the building if it's raining heavily.
How familiar am I with the surrounding area?
I am based in Stoke Newington in Hackney and work across the whole of North and East London regularly. This part of the city is my home ground, and that familiarity is useful on a wedding day. I know the traffic, I know the backstreets, I know the green spaces and where could look good as a backdrop for your couple shots.
